Cybersecurity & Identity SaaSOrganic ROI Forecast 2027

Identity, password management, endpoint, application and network security software · US search demand · global AI visibility
Industry report · Prepared by ESA Digital · Ahrefs Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer + Brand Radar

1.Key findings

Findings
  1. Passwords and threats lead. 6.7M US searches/mo across eight topics. Password Management is 2.5M (38%: “password manager”, 1.2M/mo; “password generator”, 513K) and Threats & Attacks 2.2M (“what is phishing”, 329K; “what is malware”, 146K).
  2. Enterprise topics are smaller but buyer-shaped. Zero trust and network security (550K), compliance (450K: “iso 27001”, “nist”, “soc 2”) and security operations (420K: “siem”) are 6–8% each. Penetration testing (65K) leads application security.
  3. Identity brands have the biggest footprints. Okta gets 1.1M visits/mo and 1Password 598K; CrowdStrike and SentinelOne draw 320–380K on 18–24K keywords each. Snyk has 119K.
  4. 1Password owns AI answers. It holds 62.7% of the set’s 8.4M AI impressions/mo; “Where can I find a password manager?” (151K) cites bitwarden.com, wired.com and proton.me. CrowdStrike and Okta are cited mostly on stock and trust questions.
  5. Organic search pays back at the median. Taking the median annual contract in the segment ($36.7K), a Growth project brings about 98 customers and $1.97M of paid revenue on $263K over 24 months (ROI 648%, break-even in month 13). With bottom-quartile contracts and lead rates it still returns $629K (ROI 139%).
What to do Own the explainers for threats and controls (phishing, ransomware, zero trust, SOC 2, SIEM), each linked to the product that addresses it. Publish trust pages (security record, audits, incident history): AI answers ask whether every brand in the set can be trusted.

How this was built
  • Buyer-problem seed topics for the segment (40 seeds across 8 topics) → Ahrefs Keywords Explorer (3 896 ideas); intent-clustered 1:1.
  • Off-topic row excluded from headline figures (adjacent tools / generic queries without purchase intent).
  • Click any cluster → top keywords by volume.
Findings Password Management (37.6%) and Threats & Attacks (32.0%) hold almost 70% of relevant US demand. Zero Trust & Network (8.1%), Compliance (6.7%) and Security Operations (6.2%) follow; application security, identity and endpoint are 3–4% each.
What to do Lead with threat explainers and free tools (password generator, breach checker, policy templates), then compliance guides and “best … for business” comparisons.

Findings The five brands hold 8.4M AI impressions/mo across ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode. 1Password (62.7%) leads, then CrowdStrike (17.0%) and Okta (16.6%); SentinelOne (2.7%) and Snyk (1.0%) are rarely seen. Brand prompts ask “Can I trust …?” and “What exactly does … do?”.
What to do Publish direct answers on trust, breaches and what the product covers. Password-manager prompts cite Bitwarden and reviews, so get included in independent tests and publish your own security documentation.

Cumulative ROI

ESA ROI Calculator · Start 10/$5.5K · Growth 25/$10.95K · Scale 40/$15.5K · peak 7 mo, success 60%, 180 visits/page, no brand-search layer, contract value billed monthly from 3 months after the lead, 88% kept from year 2, LLM 0.1×, LLM conv ×2. Funnel inputs follow the industry benchmark switch (Weak / Typical / Strong = bottom quartile / median / top quartile of the category). Weak / Typical / Strong combine the lead-rate estimate (0.25 / 0.5 / 0.95%) with the bottom-quartile / median / top-quartile contract. Contract value is what a typical buyer pays a vendor of the segment per year on Vendr; Vendr buyers are mostly companies with a procurement process, so contracts at small-business vendors are likely smaller. Visit → lead for content pages is an ESA estimate (no open benchmark for blog traffic).
Findings On the Growth package over 24 months, the median scenario (Typical tier: 0.5% of visitors leave a lead, 3.7% of leads become customers, $36.7K a year per customer) turns a $263K project into about 98 customers and $1.97M of revenue paid within the period (ROI 648%), breaking even in month 13. Revenue is counted as it is billed: each customer pays a twelfth of the contract a month, starting three months after the lead, and 88% is kept from year 2. Weak returns $629K (ROI 139%); Strong, with top-quartile lead rates and contracts, $5.22M.
What to do Check two numbers against your own CRM before reading the forecast: how many content visitors leave a lead, and your average first-year contract. If you sell mostly to small businesses, your contracts are likely below the Vendr median; replace the contract value with yours. Scale over 36 months returns $13.60M in the median scenario.
